A new low.

I just finished watching the news, and am faced with the sad, yet harsh fact that Indian politics is officially at an all new low.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that we have uneducated people sitting in Parliament, a large percentage of whom are more infamous than well-renowned, we now are treated to visuals of Varun Gandhi expressing communalist sentiments.
One of the things he said in his speech was: “If people raise their hands against Hindus, I swear on the Gita that I will cut those hands off”.

Here’s another interesting tidbit off today’s news: Uddhav Thackeray, in a political rally, called the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, a “hijra” (eunuch).

The RSS says that the word ‘hijra’, is colloquially used to denote poor performance.

The BJP went on to insult Atal Bihari Vajpayee, calling him, if I’m not mistaken, a “bastard”

I never thought we’d see the day when speeches by our leaders would have to be censored for content.

A sad, sad day.

Jai Ho.

  1. Sad and shameful… What a disgraceful picture we must be portraying? Is this what we’re good for? Distinctly remember the shoe-throwing in parliament… sigh…

    • The trust vote. . . the brandishing of money in Parliament?

    • AND one more thing. . .also read this in the papers. . . as “gifts”, money was given to people at a rally. . .can’t remember which party. . .in BROAD DAYLIGHT.
It is so important to make an informed decision.

  2. i agree..truly a low low.. another thing to add.. i just read in i think yesterdays paper or the day before, that the parties were upset about the new Silence Zones and the fact that they are being fined for trying to campaign out loud in such areas.. it’s ridiculous that the parties which include the NCP, BJP and Shiv Sena, are more worried about campaigning than the mental and auditory health of their vote banks…sickening…

  3. i have a year before i will be allowed to vote, five more years for the next set of elections, right? NOT looking forward to it AT all. if this is the standard of candidates.

  4. I knw…it keeps getting worse!!!!!!! sometimez i knw wat to do n then i see all this n i’m forced to ask myself a question i detest!! “what’s the use?”

  5. I happened to watch Uddhav Thackeray’s speech. My blood boiled when he called himself a ‘marathi mard’ and our PM a eunuch. I also happened to watch Raj Thackeray’s speech where he agn started with his pet topic about the North Indians. So I really dont knw now y I dragged myself to the election office to register myself for being able to vote. Its like, v vote for sum1 v think is correct, but the exact opposite happenes.. its indeed a new low! 😐
