My stories…40 truths.

1. I saw two men on a bike. The pillion rider was standing upright, hands on the driver’s shoulders, talking on the phone. (I wouldn’t blame him, if he was using LOOOOP). An amusing thought entered my head. As if on cue, the bike drove over a pothole. The pillion rider went flying over his friend’s head, only to land smack in the middle of the crowded road, bang on his bottom.

2. Jai and I were at Linking Road, before an evening out with friends. I was wearing “heels” (Read: 0.5 inches high), and I was tired of walking around in them. Without a care in the world, I threw them into my bag, and fished out my pair of oshos. (Ever-ready). Changed my shoes in the middle of the road.

3. In FYBA, I didn’t know anyone on my first day of college. I was broke, and needed 12 bucks to get home. (8 – train ticket. 4-bus). Desperate, I rolled up my dupatta, and sat down near the bhelwaala on Churchgate station’s platform No.1. I proceeded to sing “Pardesi, Pardesi” for half an hour. Made a tidy sum. πŸ™‚

4. I love to talk to rikshavaalas. I saw the first electric meter of my life in one the other day, and proceeded to have a brilliant conversation with my driver about its awesomeness, and how he thought the rest of Bombay is yeda for not having installed it yet.

5. I have a coffee shop (CCD) I’ve been going to everyday for the last 4 months. Dates, socialising, with the significant other, just to write, work on the laptop, or cry my eyes out. It all happens here. Drop in sometime, let’s chat. It’s opposite Ashok Academy in Lokhandwala.

6. Another rik dude I met. Coolest guy ever. Hindu, married to a Muslim woman. They eloped. His son is Christian, and his daughter is planning to convert to Buddhism. He doesn’t understand Hindutva, and hopes to be on TV with his family one day to show the nation how secularism can work.

7. I’ve met the most amazing people in the most unexpected places. A very, very cool Subway server (Infiniti Mall), who always gives me extra, extra, extra olives, who will soon fulfill his dream of being a pro singer on ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.

8. I’ve forged bonds that I know will last this lifetime, if not many more to come.

9. I’m more open minded.

10. I’ve got the balls to stand up for the ones I love, and that when a big guy with rotten teeth and biceps the size of Texas bad-mouths my mum, I can and will KICK. HIS. ASS.

11. I’ve learnt that not ALL professors are tight-assed. (Love you, Simmin-Bawa-Ray-Sharma).

12. I’ve learnt that changing rooms have more than one purpose.

13. I feel big enough to stand out in a crowd, yet small enough to hide from my father when I spot him in the mall and I’m actually supposed to be in CAT class.

14. I’ve found 2 first loves.

15. I’ve got words, pictures and a gazillion memories of different sides.

16. I’ve learnt that ‘Sarkar’ could be a good movie.

17. I’ve got a cool DVD-dude, with every conceivable film under the sun. (Go, Raju!).

18. I’ve got a grocer who makes honking noises when I say “Bas”, after lacing my order.

19. I’ve laughed at pick up lines like, “D’you wanna ride my disco-stick?” and “Baby, we have a Kismet Connection”.

20. I’ve had my heart broken and mended time and time again.

21. I’ve met a hot, dumb, failed actor.

22. I’ve met a hotter, smart, on-his-way-to-success actor.

23. I’ve met wonderful people all over Bombay. Every station on the Western Railway, and even some on Central. (Sion, zindabad).

24. I’ve learnt that Anisha Sharma is kinda cool.

25. I met my best friend: Mr.Stage.

26. I’ve become immune to the worst circumstances.

27. I’ve overcome. Over and over.

28. I’ve rejoiced. Over and over.

29. I’m SHIT scared of pigeons.

30. I’ve become fat. πŸ˜‰

31. I’ve had awesome, not-so-awesome and downright run-out-of-the-room-bawling hair days.

32. I’ve met people with really weird names, and really radiant personalities.

33. I’ve learnt that cats on stage ARE cool. As are drunk old women, blonde liars, spaz Hulks, horny secretaries, MJ fans in slow motion and hot models with physics majors.

34. I’ve laughed at stoned people who sing, “Saaaaraaa Zamaanaaaa” in Colaba, wearing nothing but a dhoti, a garland and headphones.

35. I’ve learnt to hate people called Francis.

36. I’ve learnt to love people called Jai, Aakriti, Shalaka, Bhoomika, Dilshad, Atiya, Rohan, Rishabh, Prachi, Payal, Akshit, Rahul, Deepak, Vikram, Raza, Vivek, Varun, Anusuya, Divyak, Sancharee, Danesh, Devanshi, Shawn, Nikhil, Jayanth, Simmin, Tanya, Mohena, Dhvani, Aditya, Abhijeet, Akshay, Alfu, Anna, Angie, Aparna, Arjun, Ash, Dan, Dev, DJ, Prince, Jamie, Ashlene, Ravee, Prabal, Suprateek, Trupti, Neha, Neeha, Nazneen, Mohini, Nandini, Pranav, Vaspaan, Tom, Aryan, Aidan, Arzan and so many more.

37. I’ve enjoyed slow motion runs at Bandstand.

38. I’ve learnt that no matter when, theatre is always a good idea.

39. I’ve learnt that sometimes, it’s fabulous to go with the flow.

40. I’ve learnt more in 3 years than some have learnt in a lifetime.

Thank you, Bombay.
Thank you.
I owe many people a lot, but to you, I owe it all.

P.S. I love having conversations with rickshaw-wallahs or anyone at all. Though I’ve not really had many conversations since I’m quite a wuss when it comes to striking a conversation. There was this one time a rickshaw guy and I had a conversation about the bomb blasts in Bombay and once a conversation with another guy who told me about how a woman who left without paying him and how it’s easy to distrust people in general once someone betrays you.
